Campbell, pastor of the congregation, in vites the public to attend. Homecoming At Watauga Baptist There will be a homecoming at the Watauga Baptist Church Sunday, Sept. 3. The service will begin at 10 a.m. and continue through out the day. The homecoming message will be delivered by the pastor, the Rev. Barney Oliver, at 11. Dinner will be served on the grounds and there will be special singing in the afternoon and all former members, pastors and the public are invited to attend. Gets Degree At S. Florida U. Richard L. Hill of Boone completed requirements for the degree of master of engineering August 12 at the University of South Florida. ON SWITCHING HOUDAYS The United States Chamber of Commerce has supported a pro posal to change five major holi days to Mondays. Senator George A. Smathers, (D.,Fla.), sponsor of the bill, told of the benefits to the employe. Christ ian College and is married to the former Dorothy Ange of Ply mouth, N. C. t’; • • 4***# ? Walker ReunionAt Backbone Rock The annual Walker reunion was held at Backbone Rock on Sunday, Aug. 20. Twenty-six families of the immediate gene ration were represented. Among those present were three brothers of the older generation: Julius G. Walker, age 94, of Wilkesboro, Jacob Arthur Walker, age 84, of Dan ville, 111., and Grover Walker, age 78, of Shady Valley, Term. Harley Walker of Sidney, HI., Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Walker, of St. Joseph, 111., Mr.and Mrs. Merle Hart, of Indiana and Mr. and Mrs. Jacob A. Walker, of Danville, HI., traveled the greatest distances. Relatives came from Indiana, Ulinois, Ohio, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia for the occasion. Mr. Cooper Goes To Raleigh To BTU Position The Rev. Maurice Cooper, pastor of the Perkinsville Church for the past five and a half years, will become an associate in the Training Union Department at Raleigh Sept. 15. He will be an assistant to the department secretary, with specific responsibilities in as sociational promotion and gen eral administration. Mr. Cooper has been an as sociate pastor, minister of youth and a pastor. He has served on the faculty at state Training Union Assembly Weeks and also during the Southwide Training Union Weeks. He is a graduate of Wingate College, Appalachian State Uni versity and Southeastern Semi nary. He also has done gradu ate work at Appalachian State University. Mr. Cooper has served the following churches in Watauga County: Willowdale, Poplar Grove, and associate pastor at First Baptiat Church of Boone. He has also taught school for two years at Cove Creek Ele mentary. He is married to the former Helen Monk and they have three children. Composer Dedicates Anthem To Church Here Mrs. Esther Mary Fuller, well-known composer of church music, who has made Boone her summer home for the past few years, has dedicated her most recent church anthem “to the Adult Choir of the First Baptist Church of Boone.
